Andre Shammas Highlights the Importance of Budgeting Support for Small Businesses

Local Accountant Calls for Greater Awareness of Everyday Challenges Faced by Entrepreneurs

Andre Shammas, a respected accountant and tax preparer based in El Cajon, has been featured in a new in-depth interview about his career, values, and work with small businesses. In the conversation, Shammas uses his platform to raise awareness of the real challenges entrepreneurs face when it comes to staying organised with budgeting and tax preparation.

“Small business owners are often doing everything themselves,” Shammas explained. “They’re serving customers, running operations, and trying to keep up with deadlines. Budgeting and tax preparation can get pushed aside. My role is to help them create a system that reduces stress and builds confidence.”

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, over 33 million small businesses make up 99.9% of all firms in the country. Yet, studies show that 82% of small businesses fail due to poor cash flow management (U.S. Bank). For many, it’s not a lack of hard work but the difficulty of juggling compliance, budgeting, and planning.

Reflecting on his own immigrant journey from Malaga, Spain to California in the 1990s, Shammas said: “Even simple paperwork felt overwhelming when my family first arrived. That’s why I try to make things clear for my clients. I know how it feels to be lost in forms and rules that don’t make sense at first.”

Shammas encourages individuals and business owners to take practical steps:

  • Track income and expenses consistently.

  • Set aside time each month for budgeting check-ins.

  • Learn the basics of record-keeping and deadlines.

  • Seek guidance early if something feels confusing.

“Success isn’t about doing it all at once,” he added. “It’s about breaking things down into manageable steps and building knowledge along the way.”

Call to Action

Shammas urges small business owners and self-employed workers to start by reviewing their own budgeting habits today. “Even if you take one small step—like setting up a folder for receipts or marking key dates on a calendar—you’re already reducing stress for tomorrow.”

For more information on best practices for budgeting and tax preparation, resources are available through the U.S. Small Business Administration (sba.gov) and local community workshops.
